The following horses are currently available for winter loan

We try to be as open and honest about them as possible in the description as it is not in our interest to place horses where it will not work!  Describing horses however is a very subjective business – what we call a spook may be fun and “nicely alert” for some riders or may be utterly terrifying and unseating for others!

Bridget : 15.3hh Suffolk Punch x, Mare

Bridget is a wise, bold, calm horse who is excellent in the heaviest traffic. She carries novice – experienced riders here and does her job very well although she can be a little opinionated at times and think that she knows best. 9 times out of 10 she does know best!! She requires experienced, confident handling on the ground and will winter out with a rug.

Barney : 15.3hh Highland x TB Gelding

Barney is a gentle, easy horse to handle on the ground – he loves cuddles! He is a relatively sensitive horse when ridden and not always the bravest with the biggest lorries / buses etc so would require a reasonably experienced confident rider. He would be happiest where he can be ridden out in company.

Una : 13.1hh Eriskay Mare

Una would be suitable for any child / small adult rider – the vast majority of work she does here is with novice children. She will happily follow another horse out and the worst she will do is an occasional grab for grass if she thinks she can / should. She is equally happy going out on her own if she is led or has someone walking with her. Una does not enjoy working in the school!!

Jeannie : 12.1hh Eriskay Mare

Jeannie also does not enjoy working in the school but is a super lead rein pony for novice kids or off lead rein for those with a wee bit more experience. Although she enjoys going out, she is equally happy standing for hours being groomed, cuddled, adored and loved!

Dee : 16.2 hh ID x Tb, Mare

Dee is a well mannered horse and a pleasure to handle on the ground. She requires an experienced rider as she can be a lively, sensitive (but not difficult) ride and can be spooky especially in windy weather. She will winter out with a rug.

Megan : 13.2hh Welsh x Mare

Megan does a little bit of everything here – she will safely carry a nervous, novice child on their first trek or an experienced lightweight adult on a fast trail ride. We haven’t had to offer her for winter homing for 4 years as she has been welcome back at previous home, but is now sadly outgrown there!

Tess : 15.1hh Shire x Mare

Tess is now an older lady – she has been with us for 17 years now and is one of the safest most reliable horses I have ever met! She is looking for a home where she could do a little light hacking and generally enjoy being made a fuss of!

Toby : 14.1hh Highland x Gelding

Toby is probably what most people think of as “a typical trekking pony”! Solid, reliable and opinionated! He is relaxed in the heaviest of traffic but can be nappy if asked to go out on his own and sometimes a little bargey on the ground. He therefore would not be suitable for a complete novice rider / handler but could give someone with a little experience lots of fun.

We have available a further 2 very well mannered, kind ponies suitable as companions, also 2 young highlands who have just started ridden work this summer and could go out to a very knowledgeable, experienced home.

Please phone for further details about these horses and the loan arrangements.
